What is kinesiology?
Kinesiology is a gentle form of communication with the body to find out what it needs for optimum health and wellbeing. Using muscle testing, feedback is gathered about the body's current state, what is causing the body stress and the levels of stress it is in, and what it needs to destress so it can heal and regain balance. This holistic and non-invasive healthcare modality is suitable for anyone of any age and gets to the root cause of the problem rather than just focusing on symptom management.
Kinesiology was first developed in the 1960s by George Goodheart, a chiropractor, and it has continually been developed and redefined by world leaders in kinesiology. Based on eastern energetic health systems and the western knowledge of anatomy and physiology, kinesiology safely addresses the root cause of an issue and doesn't just focus on symptom management.
What does it mean if we're imbalanced?
During our lifetime, we come up against many challenging situations that can cause us stress. Our body stores this stress on a physical, emotional, mental and/or spiritual level and, over time, this store level of stress increases. As the levels of stress continue to rise, our body, tired of compensating, starts to show signs of imbalance.
Some examples of stress are birth trauma, antibiotics, toxins, emotional and/or physical trauma, retained reflexes, injuries, relationship issues, medications, viruses, bacteria, parasites, and even inherited genetic stresses from your parents. Over time, the stresses start to disrupt the functions and systems of the body, including the endocrine system, the digestive system, hormone levels, our ability to detox, our ability to tolerate foods, the gut microbiome, the immune system and our mental and emotional wellbeing.
All this stress puts the body into a flight or fight response, which, over time, can cause an inflammatory state due to the prolonged release of stress hormones. According to Doctor Chris Kresser, "Inflammation is at the root of nearly all modern disease, including diabetes, Alzheimer's, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disease, allergies, asthma and arthritis. So perhaps it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that depression is also caused by inflammation. The downside of this connection is that our modern diet and lifestyle are full of factors that provoke inflammation – and thus cause disease. The upside is that if we address these factors and reduce inflammation, we can prevent and even reverse chronic inflammatory diseases."
Another cause of imbalance can be our unconscious patterns and beliefs that we tend to live our lives by. Think negative self talk, self-sabotaging, lack of self-worth, archetypal behaviour, not loving ourselves, putting others' wellbeing before our own, and the inherited patterns and examples from our parents. These patterns and beliefs cause blocks and stand in the way of us being able to move forward and achieve our dreams and goals. This causes the body stress on an emotional, mental and/or spiritual level, which can then go on to manifest as physical symptoms.
How can kinesiology help?
Kinesiology can identify these blocks, these patterns of behaviour, the stresses being held in the body on an emotional, physical, mental and spiritual level and find out where they're being held, what symptoms they're creating, what needs to be cleared and how in order for the body to release the stress and come back into a state of balance.
By enabling this information to be brought to the surface, recognised and cleared, kinesiology can then help to reframe past stress into positive steps and goals moving forward.
